Parkade Construction FAQ Dec 15, 2025

When does the project begin?

Preparation for parkade construction is scheduled to start on Monday, December 15. The contractor will mobilize construction trailers, set up fencing, signage, and start underground civil, foundation, and excavation work.

Where is the activity happening?

All activity is contained to the east side of the Reh-Fit property, in the area marked as the future parkade zone on the map below. The rest of the parking lot and building access remain open.

Will parking lot entrances and exits remain open?

Yes, all parking lot entrances and exits will remain open.

The west and main parking (east side closest to building) lot entrances and exits will be dedicated to members, guests, and staff to access parking.

The east parking lot entrance and exit (east side closest to Waverley St.) will be construction access point. A flagperson will be guiding the construction deliveries for safety of everyone. Members should expect delays and waiting periods, if using this access, as heavy trucks and equipment will be accessing and leaving the construction site.

Will parking be reduced?

The construction site will take up a portion of the parking spaces. To address this, we removed the outdoor fitness space and restored parking spaces. Occasionally, construction trucks may need to make wide turns in the members’ parking area. When this happens, a flagperson will be present to guide the vehicles for everyone’s safety.

Will pedestrian access or sidewalks be affected?

Sidewalks and pedestrian access to the main entrance will remain open. If any changes occur, they will be communicated in advance.

How will member safety be managed?

Safety is a top priority. Traffic flow, access points, and safety measures will be reviewed regularly throughout the project, and adjustments will be made as needed.

Will there be ongoing updates?

Yes. Members will receive regular updates through email, on-site signage, and this webpage as the project progresses.

Parkade Timeline Update Dec 11, 2025

New target opening is now September 2026

Parkade FAQ Nov 27, 2025

We are pleased to share important news about the next stage of the Reh-Fit Centre’s growth. To support our members and the future of our programs, the Centre Board of Directors has approved the construction of a parkade and redevelopment of the parking lot on the east side of our property.

Why this Project Matters

Membership continues to grow, and with it, parking demand. Peak times already strain our current capacity of 401 stalls, with usage regularly exceeding 380 stalls in winter. Industry benchmarks recommend more parking based on our membership numbers; our 10-year vision projects the need for approximately 550 stalls.

The Reh-Fit is exploring an expansion to its facility to meet demands of our future. We continue to work on what that could look like based on the input received from various parties when we developed our 10-year vision plan, input from our Building Advisory Committee, reviewing trends in the industry, and input from consultants who are working with us on the design and associated costs.

Importantly, the parkade is needed whether a broader expansion of the Centre proceeds. The new parkade will relieve immediate pressure, ensure smooth operations during any future expansion phases, and future-proof our capacity for growth.

Project Timeline for Parkade

  • Fall 2025 – Spring 2026: Construction of the parkade and parking lot redevelopment.
  • July 1, 2026: Targeted opening of the new parkade.

Temporary Impacts

  • 30–50 surface stalls will be unavailable during construction.
  • A gravel area will be used for construction access and laydown space.
  • We will continue to monitor and manage parking access throughout this time to minimize disruption.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where will the parkade be built?

The parkade will be constructed in the southeast section of the current parking lot, closest to Waverley Street.

Why are we building the parkade so far from the facility?

The location was chosen to provide the option of potential future expansion, optimize the space usage, and minimize disruption to current operations.

How will a new parkade benefit you?

The parkade will improve parking stall access by providing approximately 200 additional parking spaces. It will be a three-level parkade including its ground level. The construction will also allow more levels to be added in the future if needed.

Will it cost anything to use the parkade?

There will be no cost to members to use the parkade.

How long will construction take?

Construction is scheduled to take place between November 2025 and June 2026. We will keep you updated as the construction progresses.

Will construction affect your visit to Reh-Fit?

While we anticipate minimal disruption to you during the construction, there may be temporary changes to parking availability and access routes. We will provide you with updates in advance of any changes to parking.

Will this impact membership fees?

There are no planned increases to membership fees directly related to the construction of the parkade.

Is the Reh-Fit working on other projects?

The Reh-Fit is continually exploring improvements and projects to enhance your experience. As featured in the 2023-24 Annual Report, member feedback indicated future improvements should consider including an aquatics area, more space for exercising and programs, quiet relaxing spaces, recovery services, and locker rooms that better accommodate diverse needs. The parkade will better position the Reh-Fit to accommodate future projects to provide the programs, services, and amenities that members are looking for.

Where can you find more information about the parkade?

We will provide regular updates on progress through various channels such as email notices and social media, as well as on a special section of our website that we will be developing.
