Become an infusion warrior

We told you it was wise to quit the coffee for a week or so after NYE, and as a substitute, we suggest going overboard with teas and infusions. Warm, comforting, and a little healthier than coffee, a tea or infusion has plenty of benefits for the body - particularly after intense NYE partying. And be sure to choose your infusion according to your needs. If you’re feeling anxious after your crazy night, opt for a calming camomile tea, while infusions with mint and ginger can be excellent for digestion and headaches. Be kind to your liver, so drink as many infusions as possible to flush everything from NYE out.

Veg out on veggies and fruit

When you’re recovering from a night with some friends, the first thing to often think of eating is something deliciously unhealthy. Did someone say greasy pizza? While this might benefit the soul, it won’t help bring your mind or body back in shape. Treat your body like a temple, and give yourself a healthy serving of fruit and vegetables. Alcohol is known to reduce your vitamin B levels - a vitamin essential for maintaining anxiety levels. While you could dose up on magnesium tablets in the hope of a quick fix, you can get all the benefits of vitamin B from plenty of foods such as kiwi fruit, spinach, and broccoli. Easy peasy!

Say hello to the dry zone

There’s nothing like popping open a bottle of champers and starting a night of frivolity with friends. But following all the NYE festivities, why not try dry January? Sure, we don’t expect you to go completely cold turkey for the month (thumbs up to you if you can manage it!), but at least try reducing your intake significantly for January. This will give your liver a chance to recover fully and leave you looking radiant for the start of the new year. Too much alcohol can lead to digestive issues, fatigue, weight gain, and anxiety, so go easy for the month and let the results speak for themselves.

A highlight will include a procession along Princess Street, where you'll be invited to participate and be given an LED wristband in order to create a 'collective light' as you walk together. On December 31, you can welcome the new year with some traditional dancing at Ceilidh under the Castle. This will culminate in a fabulous fireworks display at midnight.

The main gay area of Bangkok is Silom, and in its heart is the Sky Bar @ Lebua - the highest rooftop bar in the city. Things are likely to be packed come December 31, so be sure to either book or arrive early to avoid disappointment.

European Snow Pride 2025: A Week of Skiing, Partying, and Pride in Tignes

Get ready to hit the slopes with style and sparkle at European Snow Pride 2025! This will be the event’s 16th edition, and it will be taking place on the beautiful slopes of Tignes from March 15 to 22. Over 1,200 snow lovers from Europe, North America, and beyond are gearing up for the most fabulous frost fest yet. Don't just daydream about fresh powder and après-ski parties — grab your gear, and let's make tracks to the most epic gay winter sports and music festival in Europe. But just in case you needed some extra inspiration to book your spot, we thought we’d give you some deets on the official (and fabulous) event program.

As you would expect from a gay ski week, skiing and snowboarding will be a focus at European Snow Pride 2025, so prepare to have loads of fun on the slopes. The event will take place in one of the world’s most beautiful ski areas, Tignes & Val d’Isère, offering 300 kilometers of perfectly interconnected slopes for varying skill levels. So whether you’re an absolute pro in the snow or more of a novice (for now), you can find something that’s just right.

Every day from 10 am to 1 pm, guided lessons for beginner, intermediate, and advanced skiers and snowboarders will occur on the slopes by highly competent, gay-friendly, and multilingual instructors. If you’re skilled on the slopes and can pass on the lessons, guided skiing and snowboarding groups will also run at the same time as the lessons every day. As your parents would always say, never do sport on an empty stomach, so fortunately for you (and mum and dad), lunch options will be available on a privatized terrace by the slopes every day from 12 pm to 2:30 pm. Event passes will also entitle you to a 10% discount, so you have no excuses to skip!

European Snow Pride is lauded as Europe’s biggest gay festival of winter sports and music, and with its fantastic activity program that extends beyond skiing and snowboarding, we can understand why. Over eight days, enjoy a jam-packed schedule, including apres-skis every afternoon from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. And don’t worry, 2025 won’t be any different! Tignes Pride is the world’s only ski resort, and it’s the first one of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. We can understand why event organizers and locals consider it pretty special then. For 2025, Tignes Pride will kick off on Thursday, March 20, and bring together thousands of pride enthusiasts who will take part in a beautiful and colorful procession on the slopes. So pack your rainbow flags and whistles, and prepare to be a part of something truly unique and memorable on the slopes.

While many ski enthusiasts come to European Snow Pride every year for plenty of alpine fun on the slopes, the incredible pool party tends to be the highlight each time. Don’t believe us? Grab your best set of Speedos, and find out for yourself. For 2025, the pool party will make waves at Tignes’ unique 5,000m2 aquatic center, Le Lagoon, and due to its popularity, it will be taking place twice. If you're feeling blue, splash to Monday's Blue Pool Party, while those craving bright yellow can opt for Wednesday's Yellow Pool Party. Expect loads of party enthusiasts dancing, tobogganing, playing with inflatable toys filling the pools, or relaxing in the saunas, steam rooms, and jacuzzis. If there are ever any moments you find yourself feeling a little frosty at European Snow Pride, the pool party will be a surefire way to heat things.

Along with the pool party, there will be loads of other fantastic LGBTQ+ entertainment over the week at a series of local venues in Tignes Val Claret whether you’re a die-hard party animal or attend the many events and themed parties accessible with your European Snow Pride 2025 event pass at the different bars and clubs of Tignes Val Claret and le Lac. The official Pride Party will kick off at Tignespace, following the Tignes Pride parade. It will welcome popular DJs, renowned international artists, and incredible shows. This will be one memorable, unique way to celebrate Pride in Tignes, so be sure to add this party to your itinerary (or all parties if you’re gayme!).

New for 2025: The SnowGaymes Competition

This year introduces the SnowGaymes, a lighthearted competition for teams of six, featuring daily challenges like downhill snow tubing, parallel slalom races, and a drag queen ski race. Creativity and flair are rewarded with categories like Best Costume, and the winning teams will be celebrated during the Friday finale.

In addition to all the action, several more low-key events will be dotted throughout European Snow Pride 2025, should you wish to take things down a notch. On Sunday night, you can enjoy a raclette dinner; on Tuesday, a soirée Savoyard (think fondue and more), and Friday night, a gastronomic dinner. All three dinners will accompany a cabaret performance to settle you into the mood. The Wilderness camp evening on Monday, with a fondue dinner in an authentic Mongolian yurt, followed by a magical toboggan ride through pine trees and ice waterfalls.

How to Navigate Developing Countries as an LGBTQ+ Traveler

When it comes to international travel, Europe and the Caribbean have long been popular destinations for LGBTQ+ travelers – with good reason - but eventually travelers yearn for new and more exotic experiences.

Fortunately, LGBTQ+ tour operators offer vacations to some of globe's most #lifechanging destinations. These countries (many still developing) offer incredible experiences, exposing visitors to truly unique cultures, but navigating them can be challenging at best for many reasons.

One such reason is that some of these countries are not traditionally known as “welcoming” to LGBTQ+ folk, which causes some guests to wonder why anyone should travel there.

Jeff Gundvaldson, co-owner of Brand g Vacations, the #1 operator of luxury all-LGBTQ+ vacations, explains it this way:

“We certainly understand travelers’ feelings about supporting a country that has laws or cultural norms that don’t embrace the LGBTQ+ community. But we have found that a large segment of the citizens often doesn’t agree with those laws or norms and that by traveling there and interacting with the locals, we can profoundly impact their understanding and acceptance.”

This, of course, is what makes group travel to these countries so valuable to the LGBTQ+ guest. Traveling in a gay bubble (and its attendant “strength in numbers”) makes the experience infinitely easier than traveling alone, and you’re met with smiles, warmth, and gratitude because these tour operators have smoothed the way.

And once you’ve spent time there as part of a group, extending your trip on your own becomes infinitely easier because you’ve gotten the lay of the land.

Another plus to beginning with a group tour operator like Brand g is that they offer trips that manage every detail, from luxurious hotels and river cruise ships to highly experienced staff there to handle any issue. As they say, “All you have to do is show up.”

Some examples:

The logistical details of seeing an entire country in one trip can be incredibly daunting. On a recent Brand g tour of Peru, which included an Amazon River cruise and Machu Picchu, one gay couple brought their mothers (who became the mascots for the trip—everyone loved them).

One of the men said to a Brand g host, “We started trying to put this trip together ourselves, and it was completely overwhelming. Way too many details. When we saw the Brand g trip, it was like they had created it just for us. We got to see exactly the places we wanted to see, and have every detail handled by somebody else.”

On a Brand g tour of India, a guest had a sudden medical emergency, and the staff treated him and then airlifted him back to the U.S. without incident. That kind of assistance can be worth its weight in gold.

Here are some destinations that merit serious consideration, along with tips for the best ways to travel there.

EGYPT (AND JORDAN)

Egypt's ruins rival those of Greece and Turkey. Well-preserved, beautifully presented temples, tombs, and more offer some of the most jaw-dropping ancient sites on the planet.

Some companies, like Brand g, offer an add-on to Jordan, which is a must. The stunning sites of Jerash and particularly Petra (along with the red sand desert of Wadi Rum) will make for a spectacular finish to your journey through these Middle Eastern gems. Jordan is an easier country to travel on your own in than Egypt—it’s more progressive—but as with Egypt, the best sights are quite spread out.

Being heavily Muslim countries, you’ll find it easier to begin your travels with a group, since there can be many hiccups on your own. An example: a gay couple who recently went to Egypt on their own were refused a room – at a large, international American chain hotel – because they were two men traveling together who wanted a king-size bed. (This is far less likely to happen if you use a site like misterb&b for your accommodations, where the hosts have been vetted.)

As a tour group - particularly with a high-end company like Brand g - you’ll likely never feel even a whiff of unwelcomeness, thanks to copious advance planning by the tour company and the fact that a small security detail travels with the group everywhere they go. When you’re in a bubble like this, you have nothing to worry about and can focus on the amazing sites at hand.

PERU

Peru is a land of extraordinary contrasts, from the jungles of the Amazon to the sophistication of Lima (with one of the highest concentrations of Michelin-star restaurants in the world) to the mysticism of Machu Picchu.

This country does not suffer from religious strictures the way Egypt does. It’s highly Catholic but tolerant, and the Pope’s recent blessing of same-sex marriages will only strengthen that. What is taxing about seeing Peru is the logistical challenges of trying to see these many parts of the country. Luxury tour operators like Brand g have created trips that fold all these planes, trains and buses into a neat and quite well-paced package that allows you to cruise the Amazon, spend time seeing Lima and Cusco and the Sacred Valley, and tour Machu Picchu – all in 5-star comfort. (The trip includes two intra-Peru flights, a train to Machi Picchu, buses to and from the Amazon cruise point, etc.)

INDIA

India is high on the list of #lifechanging destinations that can be overwhelming. Again, a group tour is a must, and a 5-star version will provide you with the sort of hand-holding necessary in a land of overcrowded cities (albeit ones with profound cultural and religious sites) and poverty.

It will also provide luxurious respites that restore you after a chaotic day. Luckily, India is inexpensive by American standards, so a 5-star trip here will cost what a 3.5 or 4-star trip would elsewhere. Brand g pairs touring the Golden Triangle cities with a peaceful and culturally enlightening river cruise on the Ganges, all using 5-star amenities (river cruise ship, hotels, and restaurants).

One of the things to look for in an LGBTQ+ tour company that offers India trips is experience. Brand g, for one, has done their trip to India a dozen times and knows the country backwards and forwards. (It also helps that they use the finest land operators in the world — companies like Abercrombie & Kent.)

Since the travel time to India is considerable, those for whom vacation time is less of a concern will often also opt to tour neighboring Nepal and Bhutan, which border India on the north. Bhutan, in particular, offers some of the most hospitable people on earth, along with spectacular sites like the Tiger’s Nest monastery, which clings to the side of a mountaintop.

AFRICA

Perhaps nothing is more #lifechanging than sitting in an open-air jeep twenty feet from a pride of lions. But we’ve all heard the horror stories of low-end tours where a wild animal accosted unsuspecting tourists in a car.

If you can afford a luxury trip, taking a safari is not the place to economize. For starters, low-end tours merely offer drives on paved roads through Kruger National Park’s open areas, where a line of cars are constantly snaking through. This is less of a “game drive” and more of a Disney version of a safari. (We mean no disrespect to those who take less expensive safaris – we’re all of different means and have different priorities when traveling.)

To have a truly memorable experience, you want to be on a private reserve. This term can seem like a misnomer, as though the reserves are fenced in, with animals that are cared for, but that’s not the case. The reserves are not fenced, and animals come and go, and live and die with no intervention from humans except to stop poachers.

Here, you’re driving down dirt paths and through the brush with extraordinarily experienced, top-flight rangers and guides. (On a luxury safari, two travel with each jeep.) You can sit watching lions, leopards, elephants, or giraffes - and any other species - completely alone or perhaps in the company of one other jeep from the same safari camp. It is nothing short of magical.

And you feel safe. As one guide put it on a private reserve game drive, “Here in the reserve, the wildlife look at a jeep and its occupants as one entity, and a non-threatening one at that, since no one in these jeeps has ever tried to hurt them.” So they generally ignore the jeep and just go about their activities, which makes for incredible viewing.

But it would be a shame to visit Africa without seeing other extraordinary sights on this massive continent - like Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe or sophisticated Cape Town, South Africa, one of the world’s great cities.
